SWINDON Ladies seconds had to settle for a point after they were held to a 1-1 draw against Team Bath Buccaneers fourths.

After a tough game in Chippenham last week the clash with Bath was not any easier as the visitors started the stronger, pinning Swindon in their own circle for much of the first half.

Despite the overwhelming pressure, the Swindon defence held firm, with Kayleigh Warman impressing at left back.

On the rare occasion that the Swindon defence was breached, young Mollie Selwood produced a string of excellent saves to keep Bath at bay.

The hosts battled hard throughout the opening period, but they were lucky to be on level terms at half time.

Nicci Foster-Kenyon was excellent in defence alongside Lou Siddorn, Karen Silvester, Helen Niblock and captain Charlie Watson.

The second period saw the home midfield and front line slowly creep into the game.

Angela Cooke battled hard for Swindon alongside Mary Goldsmith, while Kim Taylor, Gemma Court and Daisy Mussard chased many a lost cause and tried to put the Bath defence under a bit more pressure.

The hosts grabbed the breakthrough following a short corner and while the initial strike was saved, Mussard reacted quickest and managed to squeeze the ball home from a tight angle.

With more than 20 minutes still to play, Swindon knew they were in for a battle to hold onto all three points.

Heather Knight offered an outlet down the left and helped to protect the lead and Emma Brown never stopped running up and down the pitch to ensure that the ball never got past Selwood in goal.

Despite all their efforts, including further saves from Selwood and a goal line clearance from skipper Watson, a late short corner finally found it’s way into the Swindon goal to hand Bath a deserved point.

In fairness, it was probably the least that Bath deserved but Swindon were not in charitable mood and refused to give up, holding on for a hard earned point.
