SWINDON suffered late heartache in their top-of-the-table clash with Wotton-under-Edge as they went down 2-1 in Conference North.

The league leaders took the game to the visitors and dominated the first 20 minutes of the match, creating a number of chances that the Wotton keeper kept at bay.

Lewis Dyer anchored the Swindon defence as they piled forward, however it was the Gloucestershire outfit who took the with 10 minutes of the half remaining when they pounced on a save from Alan Gough to fire the ball home.

The second half saw a far more balanced match as Swindon chased the all-important equaliser and Wotton looked to extend their lead.

The hosts finally made the most of all their penalty corners, with skipper Luke Cejer putting away a saved effort from Jim Towers to the delight of the Swindon supporters on the sideline.

With less than 15 minutes remaining, it looked like the contest would be heading to a draw when in the final 10 minutes, a controversial penalty corner was awarded for a foul inside the Swindon area.

The hosts were to pay an even greater price as the set-piece was converted by a Wotton forward to restore their advantage.

The final minutes of the game saw Swindon throw everything at grabbing a late equaliser, but to no avail.
