SWINDON men finished a frustrating season in Conference North with a comprehensive 8-2 victory away at relegated Leominster.

The game started poorly but Swindon’s quality soon began to shine through. A brace from Thomas Lentschner settled any nerves before goals from Lewis Dyer, Tom Goldsmith and Phil Scarisbrick threatened a landslide win.

However, Alan Gough’s search for a first clean sheet since February 20 was ended by a Leominster counter-attack goal to make the half-time score 5-1.

Swindon stepped off the gas in the second half but there were still further goals for Goldsmith and Scarisbrick before Henry Cheney got in on the act.

Gough made a number of excellent stops but Leominster grabbed another consolation late on.

Although missing out on promotion has been frustrating, Swindon's season will be seen as a success and they will hope to build on it next year.

Meanwhile, Swindon Ladies collected two wins in a busy week to continue their West Premier 2A title challenge.

On Thursday night they, completed a 4-0 victory over Marlborough thanks to a first-half hat-trick from teenager Chloe Lewis. Adrianna Bollousa was also on target against a Marlborough side fighting to avoid relegation.

Swindon were then 1-0 winners over local rivals Chippenham in their penultimate game of the season.

In an even first half, both teams had chances but the Chippenham keeper and Sarah Anstey, in the Swindon goal, kept the scores level.

The second half was dominated by Swindon and Lewis got the decisive goal in the final five minutes.
