HAT-TRICK hero Henry Cheney ensured Swindon returned to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Yate despite a below-par performance in their first GoCrea8 League Conference North home game of the season.

Swindon found themselves 1-0 up within two minutes, the ball finding its way through to Cheney who made no mistake.

Ten minutes into the second half, keeper Alan Gough was unsighted and unable to stop a solid strike from Yate to bring them level.

Swindon pressed to retake the lead, and did so within minutes, with another goal from Cheney.

A third for Cheney, which was followed by a goal for Lentschner, wrapped up the result.

Captain Tom Goldsmith said: “We haven’t played that well, but we got the win and scored four good goals.’’

SWINDON Ladies delivered a strong defensive performance and gained their second win in West Clubs League Premier Division One with a 2-1 success over Bournemouth.  A positive Swindon start put Chloe Lewis through one on one with the Bournemouth keeper but she was unable to convert the chance.

It turned out to be the best opportunity as a technically superior Bournemouth took control, with Swindon goalkeeper Sarah Anstey required kept the game even at half time.  The interval allowed Swindon to regroup and within four minutes they took the lead.

Vicky Stokes used her experience to steal the ball and lay a long pass into the path of Adrianna Boullosa who skipped past a challenge and laid a perfect pass for Shona O’Dwyer to score.

A fast break down the left, led by Chloe Lewis, found Boullosa who finished off the move by scoring the second from close range.

Bournemouth threw everything into attack, with Anstey seemingly unbeatable in goal before a rare lapse of concentration by the defence led to a deflected goal with seven minutes to go.

Midfielder Linda Brouwers said: “We really worked hard for this win and whilst it wasn’t a perfect performance, we showed that we can dig deep and fight for results.”
