SWINDON were pushed West Clubs Women’s League Premier Division One leaders ISCA before subsiding to a 3-2 defeat on Saturday.

The visitors’ slow start was immediately punished by the hosts who scored within five minutes from a long corner.

But Swindon’s talented midfield began to take more control, with Shona O’Dwyer and Gemma Scrase linking well for the equaliser.

Scrase took the ball into the area and, from a rebound, the ball fell to O’Dwyer whose found teenager Chloe Lewis who scored from close range.

ISCA regained their lead when a strike from a penalty corner found the net after 25 minutes but Swindon immediately responded again.

Scrase again drove into the area and her long-range shot found the corner of net.

The second half was a flowing, open affair with both teams creating good opportunities but the decisive moment came when ISCA converted another penalty corner as a clever defection beat Swindon keeper Sarah Anstey.

Swindon were denied another equaliser when the ball found the net but the umpires decided it had not touched a Swindon stick in the D.

Swindon defender Mary Goldsmith said: “At times, we were so focused and playing well, I was sure we would get at least a point from the game.’’

THE Swindon club enjoyed more success at the Wotton under Edge hockey festival.

The club were represented by a mixed under eights team, under 10 boys and under 12 girls and boys teams, winning eight of the 17 matches played in total, with three draws and six losses.

Following the recent Wiltshire hockey trials in Warminster, Swindon have had 13 junior players announced in the 2016/2017 Wiltshire Junior Academy squads.

Junior coordinator Michele Harding said: “It is a fantastic achievement for the players concerned and is a testament to their dedication along with the coaches and volunteers within the club.

“Many of these players have already play for our senior teams within the club which has benefited their development”
