SWINDON maintained their unbeaten away record in GoCrea8 League Conference North and closed the gap on leaders Robinsons A after a 3-2 derby success at Chippenham.

While Robinsons were being held 2-2 against Devizes, Swindon grabbed another three points to keep their promotion aspirations alive.

An end-to-end fast-paced game saw Swindon take the lead thanks to Thomas Lentschner, who scored from close range.

But the advantage didn’t last long after a penalty corner routine was converted by the home side’s Luke Morris.

Swindon took the lead again just before half-time after Tom Goldsmith scored following some fine build-up play from Matt Kenyon.

The second half was even more frantic with the home side grabbing an equaliser through Mark Knight midway through the half.

With time running out, striker Lentschner netted the winner for the visitors, who had to withstand a ferocious late response from Chippenham as several saves from goalkeeper Alan Gough preserved their triumph.

SWINDON Ladies delivered a dismal performance and deservedly lost to West Clubs League Premier Division strugglers Somerset Gryphons 2-1 on Saturday.

The game started strongly for Swindon, who took the lead after four minutes.

From a long corner, teenager Chloe Lewis fashioned an opportunity and struck her powerful shot into the far corner.

The second half saw Swindon lose consistency on a regularly basis, giving the ball away and allowing Somerset to pounce on their errors.

Poor discipline from Adriana Boullosa led to a yellow card and a reckless challenge from keeper Sarah Anstey gave Somerset a penalty stroke.

Anstey redeemed herself with a save, but with 10 players, Swindon did not hold out for long and from a penalty corner, Somerset drew level when a deflected shot found the net.

With no quality in their play, Swindon continually allowed Somerset to keep them under pressure and after giving away possession, Somerset scored a second.

Swindon goalscorer Lewis admitted: “No one stood out. We all know this was a poor game.

“We have to learn quickly and strive to get better in order to survive at this level."
