SWINDON ladies took plenty of positives from their trip to Premier Division One leaders Clifton despite falling to a 3-1 defeat.

With the team focussed on showing a strong performance, they started well with midfielder Linda Brouwers dominating the early midfield exchanges.

Swindon were given a very early view of Clifton’s attacking prowess as they won their first penalty corner after six minutes but a good save from Sarah Anstey kept the score level.

The visitors then fashioned three chances of their own but were unable to break the deadlock.

Clifton then took lead after a quick break before netting twice more before the break.

Swindon raised their game after the interval and the attacking strength of Gemma Scrase and Emily Arrell grabbed an opportunity that lead to a Swindon goal.

A long pass from Scrase found Arrell wide of Clifton’s circle, ad when she rounded two players, her pass found Chloe Lewis who gratefully turned the ball home.

With some strong defending the score remained at 3-1
