SWINDON Hockey Club juniors Nat O’Dwyer, 14, and Megan Poole, 13, have been named in the England Hockey Performance Centre squads for 2017.
After Swindon recently had players named in the Wiltshire county squads, the teenagers have also gained recognition.
Both O’Dwyer and Poole and Megan have been with the club since the age of eight and have represented the club throughout the age groups as well as helping their respective teams win multiple Wiltshire titles.
Both players have represented the senior teams in matches on a regular basis, O’Dwyer being a pupil at Lydiard Park Academy and Poole attending Isambard.
Swindon Hockey Club juniors' head coach Mark O’Dwyer said: “To have two players selected into the England Performance Centre squads is great news and testament to the drive and ambition of both players.
“Credit must also be given to county coaches Glyn Morgan and Thomas Wilson for their guidance over the last few years.’’ England Hockey performance director Ed Barney said: “The Talent Development team and Performance Centre coaches will be ensuring that Performance Centres provide a high quality, needs-based, open and flexible environment that accelerates and deepens the development of a broad group of players across the country.
“It’s imperative that we make more progress with the development of young players nationwide.’’
