SWINDON continued their good start to 2017 with a 2-0 GoCrea8 League Conference North win over struggling Yate, which was more convincing than the scoreline suggests.

The visiting side went 1-0 up inside the first 15 minutes thanks to a fine individual goal by Luke Cejer.

Minutes later, Swindon extended their lead as a well-worked penalty corner was converted by Chris Parsons after the Yate keeper had made an initial save.

Swindon continued to dominate but the Yate keeper and defence managed to keep the Swindon forward line at bay.

n SWINDON Ladies were also up against fellow strugglers Yate in their West Clubs League Premier Division One contest at home, but paid the price for a lacklustre performance in a 1-0 defeat.

Swindon started strongly, securing a penalty corner after six minutes, but forward Chloe Lewis shot high.

That was to be their only real chance of the half as they lost shape and regularly gave away possession.

Yate pressed and only gutsy defensive work from the home side kept the score level at half-time.

With a change of tactics at the break, Swindon re-started stronger and commanded much of the possession.

The forward line pressed hard and created clear opportunities but the Yate keeper stood firm with a string of saves.

Disappointingly, Swindon were unable to convert any of their penalty corners and they paid the ultimate price as, with four minutes to play, Yate scored directly from their own penalty corner to secure the victory.

Swindon will hope to break their league duck away from home this season when they travel to bottom-placed Bournemouth.
