SWINDON suffered a fatal double blow in their GoCrea8 Conference North promotion challenge as they slipped to back-to-back weekend defeats against the league’s top two sides.
Travelling to Bristol side Robinsons A for a top-four clash, Swindon dominated but conceded a late goal to fall to a 2-1 defeat.
Swindon took the lead midway through the fist half thanks to Tom Wickens’ excellent short-corner strike.
Minutes later, Wickens hit the post after a fine run and shot before the hosts capitalised on a poor pass in the Swindon defence and scored from close range just before half-time.
The second half saw Swindon totally dominate, with short corners and open-play efforts either just missing the target or being saved.
As time was running out, they failed to spot a Robinsons player back on after green card and a long ball found him unmarked to fire home the winner.
Another 2-1 defeat to leaders Penarth at Isambard on Sunday ended Swindon’s promotion hopes.
Swindon again dominated the contest but failed to capitalise on their chances.
Captain Tom Goldsmith grabbed a fine opening goal for the hosts inside five minutes, with Penarth drawing level midway through the half.
The Welsh side then got the winner with five minutes to go.
