SWINDON are still holding faint promotion hopes from the GoCrea8 League Conference North after putting county rivals Devizes to the sword 4-0 on Saturday.

With four games to go, Swindon are six points behind second-placed side Robinsons A, with all four of those games against teams below them in the table.

The home side took the lead late on in the first half thanks to a fine finish from Tom Wickens, getting on the end of a Luke Cejer cross.

The second period saw Swindon wrap up the points with three great breakaway goals, two from Tom Lentchner and another from Wickens.

Swindon travel to Wales to face Cardiff-based Whitchurch A this weekend, while hoping for a slip-up from Robinsons.

n SWINDON Ladies slipped to the bottom of the West Clubs League Premier Division One as they suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to mid-table Plymouth Marjon.

Despite commanding most of the first-half possession, it was Plymouth who took the lead from a scrappy goal scored from close range.

Swindon levelled from a penalty corner when Linda Brouwers’ shot found the net from a direct strike. However, the scores were level for only two minutes as Plymouth broke and netted from open play just before half-time.

The second half started disastrously for Swindon as they conceded a penalty stroke within a minute of the restart that Plymouth converted to stretch their lead.

As Swindon struggled to make an attacking impact, Plymouth were able to add three more goals, condemning Swindon to their heaviest defeat of the season.

Swindon defender Claire Tyas admitted: “For some reason, everything they (Plymouth) did paid off’.
