WILTSHIRE trainer Richard Hannon gained a famous one-two as Godolphin claimed their sixth victory in the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes, with Night of Thunder beating stablemate Toormore at a sun-kissed Newbury.

But he was partially eclipsed on a miserable day for bookmakers, who had to endure housewives’ favourite Ryan Moore notching a fantastic 1,962-1 five-timer from six rides.

Night Of Thunder had gone close at the highest level but had not won a race in four subsequent attempts since taking the 2000 Guineas last year.

And there was no respite for layers as James Doyle brought the 11-4 joint-favourite home to record a neck success in the feature.

Hannon, based at Everleigh and Herridge near Marlborough, said: “That was wonderful. Both of them will improve - definitely Toomore will. He’s been a little bit heavy all this year and he doesn’t do much at home.

“Night Of Thunder shows us a bit more at home but he too will improve. He doesn’t have anything to prove now. He’s won a Guineas and a Lockinge and is obviously a very good horse who will make a very good stallion.

“These horses have speed and they get a trip. Toormore might get a mile-and-a-quarter. We tried a mile-and-a-quarter with Night of Thunder. Nothing is impossible at this stage and they will probably now go to Ascot and go well in the Queen Anne.

“As the year goes on, the races open in Europe - there is the Queen Anne, there is the Moulin and the Prix Jacques le Marois. There are a lot of lovely races and they don’t have to go for the same ones, and it would be better for me personally if they didn’t.”

Yet it was Moore who stole the limelight with his famous five, two of them for Sir Michael Stoute.

Moore bagged his fourth winner from the first four races as Time Test came from off the pace to steal the Al Zubarah London Gold Cup.

The Roger Charlton-trained Dubawi colt, making his seasonal debut, scored by a length-and-a-quarter from Dissolution.

Beckhampton trainer Charlton said: “He has been immature, and he showed that immaturity again as he jammed on from the start.

“He’s actually been working with (three-time Group One winner) Al Kazeem but Ryan said that we should take our time with him and not make great plans yet.”
