PAUL Swindlehurst’s Great Britain Under 20s side lost their second game of the World Championships after going down 6-2 to Poland in the Ukraine yesterday.

The Wildcats man played his part as his country raced into an early 2-0 lead thanks to a James Griffin strike and a Jack Watkins powerplay goal in Donetsk, but they couldn’t hang on in the Division One B clash.

Kacper Guzik got the Poles back on track seven minutes after the second GB goal with a five on three powerplay effort at 17.50, but Andre Payette’s side still went in at the end of the first period with a 2-1 advantage.

Poland pulled level early in the second session as Radoslaw Nalewajka netted and another powerplay goal, from Adam Domogala, gave them the lead for the first time as the second period came to an end.

The game was all but wrapped up with two goals inside 16 seconds midway through the third period, as first a Lukasz Nalewajka powerplay goal and then a Michal Kalinowski strike made it 5-2.

Piotr Huzarski scored a sixth at 51.11 to end the scoring, leaving Great Britain with work to do following their 2-1 defeat to the hosts on Monday.

The team’s third game takes place today against Croatia, with face-off at 11am UK time.
