SWINDON head coach Ryan Aldridge wants a quick solution to his Nicky Watt problem as he looks to bolster the Wildcats’ EPL play-off push.

Scotsman Watt last week announced his intention to leave the club for undisclosed personal reasons, with his final game being the visit to Bracknell on Sunday.

The combative forward has contributed 11 goals and 16 assists in 26 games this season, not to mention taking care of the majority of the rough stuff.

Aldridge knows Watt’s are big boots to fill and is determined to find the right man as soon as he can, but says he will not be rushed into the wrong decision.

“As soon as we got the news (that Watt was leaving) I started looking,” said Aldridge.

“Obviously at this time of the year there’s not too many British players out there, but we are working hard to replace him in some way and hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.

“The timescale is as soon as we can but we don’t just want to make a snap decision and get the wrong guy.

“We need to bring someone in and without a doubt we will do that.”

One man who will not be coming to Wiltshire is ex-Manchester forward Ciaran Long, a former Swindon player who had been with linked with a return.

Long has left the Phoenix for work reasons and it was revealed yesterday that he had joined Slough.

Meanwhile, Swedish star Jonas Hoog, Wildcats’ top scorer for 2012/13 so far with 57 points, feels Watt will be much-missed after he plays his final games in the double header against Bracknell this weekend.

“It’s a big loss, he’s the second centre man and he’s really important for us,” said Hoog.

“He does the hard stuff and there’s going to be a big hole there.

“We will see if they replace him or not, we have no clue what’s happening at the moment and we will just have to see.

“In the meantime we will just try to win as many games as we can.”

Hoog took his goals tally for the season to 21 with a hat-trick in the 8-4 drubbing of struggling Telford on Sunday, which coupled with the 5-3 win over Sheffield gave Swindon their first four-point weekend of the campaign.

“I’m always pleased with a hat-trick but the most important thing is that we won the game,” said Hoog.

“It’s not easy to come to Telford and get two points and it was a big result for us.

“They struggled and in the second period we were scoring goals shift after shift, so that probably made them pad down a little bit.

“This weekend was pretty good and that is because good teams find a way to win. We can play much better but we won the games and that was the most important thing.”
