AARON Nell could play a part in Great Britain's Winter Olympics tilt after being called up to the preliminary squad for final qualifiers.

The Swindon Wildcats skipper is the leading goalscorer in the EPL this season with 32 goals in 32 games and that has impressed head coach Tony Hand enough to bring the 23-year-old forward into the GB setup.

The 32-man squad will meet for a two-day training camp in Manchester on January 21-22 and the final 22 men will be named for final qualifiers in Latvia following that.

GB travel to Riga on February 6 ahead of the four-team tournament, in which they will face the hosts as well as France and Kazakhstan.

Hand said: “By naming a 32-man squad, it gives me chance to look at a number of players who weren’t in the final squad last time.

“The camp will give us a great start in our preparations for Riga. It will not only give us chance to work on tactics, but will also be a great bonding exercise for the squad.”

Nell, who has 37 assists to his name for a points total of 79 this campaign, is one of five EPL players named in the preliminary squad.

The others are Guildford's David Longstaff, Basingstoke duo Joe Greener and Greg Owen and Milton Keynes' Leigh Jamieson.

The Winter Olympics take place in Sochi, Russia on February 7-23, 2014.
