RYAN Aldridge admits he can do nothing more than trust to luck in the hope that Swindon’s injury problems solve themselves.

The head coach only had seven fit forwards at his disposal for the 6-3 defeat at Telford on Sunday, and is unlikely to have three full lines for the clash with Slough at the Link Centre tonight.

Although Matias Perkkio will return from Finland where he has been since the death of his father three weeks ago, Wildcats will feasibly only have eight front men due to Floyd Taylor’s shoulder problem.

The forward area has been a problem one for Swindon this campaign, with Nicky Watt and Chris Jones both electing to leave mid-season and Lee Richardson and Jamie Hayes suffering long-term injuries.

And Aldridge said: “We’re probably not going to have three lines of forwards for Wednesday, but if we did it would give us that little bit more depth and save our forwards getting burnt out.

“We’ll have a little rest on Tuesday and see who pops up for the Wednesday night game. “(With a busy schedule) people start getting niggly injuries and getting tired - Saturday night was probably the worst I’ve felt in my whole career.

“It’s tough but we’ve just got to battle through it. “Hopefully we can get Floyd back for the weekend and roll with three lines for the rest of the year. “Touch wood, no more injuries.” Meanwhile, Aldridge wants to see an improvement in Swindon’s home displays, starting tonight against the Jets. He said:

“It’s a home game so we have to give a solid performance. “We are really focusing on our home performances now because we seem to play better away, until Sunday.

“We need to a drastic improvement and to start winning some home games for the fans. We need to be better on D and play our smart, defensive style.”

Wildcats’ Loris Taylor believes any side in the English Premier League would ‘struggle’ to cope with the injury problems that Swindon have experienced this season.

He said: “Anyone would struggle in this situation. Guildford are lucky enough to have loads of players, but I’m pretty sure if they lost a lot of key players, they would be struggling too.

“We are short and it does take a lot out of the key players like Aaron (Nell) and Hoogy (Jonas Hoog) being on the ice all the time. “We’re fit enough (as a team), it’s just that things sometimes don’t go our way and that’s what makes us lose.”
