LEE Richardson is glad to be home after making a quick return to Swindon Wildcats.

The 30-year-old forward left the Link Centre for Slough in the summer after 17 seasons with his hometown club, but after leaving the Jets due to the club’s off-ice problems he has quickly been snapped up by Cats head coach Ryan Aldridge.

Richardson continued to live in Swindon during his short spell with the Jets, before initiating the return to his former club once it looked as if he would be leaving the Hangar, and is delighted to be back in familiar surroundings.

“There have been a few off-ice problems in Slough so I was looking around for a new team to see if they were looking to make any additions or chances and Ryan said he had a place for me,” he said.

“I was with the club a long time before I left, as a junior and a senior, so it’s nice to be coming back home again to the place where I played a lot of my hockey.

“I still lived here so I was commuting four times a week, which wasn’t ideal, so it’s going to be nice to be playing back down the road.

“Swindon is where I wanted to be, and I never wanted to leave in the first place, so it’s great things have been able to work out for me to come back.”

Richardson is returning to a Wildcats team with a number of new faces compared to the side he left at the end of last season, but the forward believes they can begin to move up the table if they can find a level of consistency.

“When I played them with Slough this season, which was about six times I think, I got a good picture of what they were like although there were a fair few new faces,” he said.

“We have a strong team and hopefully now we can start putting a good string of results together, because that was all that was really missing, and get things going.

“Hopefully I can help with that by giving them a bit more depth and experience, because sometimes if there are a lot of young guys around they need a bit of help.”
