SWINDON Wildcats are set to name their captain before the weekend’s trip to Sheffield.

So far the captain’s job has been shared between a few of the Cats, while the players prepare to make their decision on who they want to be their on-ice leader.

Each player will vote on who gets the role and on the two alternate captains, with the men receiving the most votes, providing they want the job, taking the C or A on their shirt.

Aldridge think his players will have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to making the decision.

“It’s going to be done over the next over the next three days, so we’ll have all three jobs filled by the weekend,” the Cats’ boss told the Advertiser.

“For me there’s more than three guys that can do it. We’ve had the guys in locker room that have been captain in the past and others in there that have that leadership quality and could be put up for it.

“So far we’ve had a different captain every night and been seeing how they’ve done leading. We have a big squad of players to choose from so there’s a lot of options.

“There are the guys who are vocal in the locker room when I’m there but when I’m not in the locker room maybe different leaders come out as it’s different when I’m not there.

“They’ll all get a vote for the three different roles and the ones with the most votes will get them, if they want the job, you might get a player who might not want the role then it’s whoever’s next who wants it.”

Injuries in Aldridge’s squad this season has seen him call on some of the academy players. Luc Johnson, Michael Stratford and Toms Rutkis have all featured and Aldridge is pleased to have such able deputies for when his first string players are missing.

“At Sunday night on Guildford they (Stratford and Rutkis) did long shifts against some of the top players in the league and acquitted themselves well,” Aldridge added.

“It’s obviously now about maintaining that all year in the academy and working hard when they do get up with us. The biggest thing for me is playing with confidence, I don’t want them to come up and play within themselves.

“We’ve had a couple of boys withconcussion. So they’re coming into they’re spots and have shown they can be used when needed. We’re lucky to have that squad underneath, they’re proving now what they can do for us.”
