SWINDON Wildcats suffered their second defeat in the space of a week at the hands of Peterborough Phantoms as they were on the wrong end of a 7-2 rout at the Link Centre.

In a scrappy game that was dominated by penalties from both sides, including two fights, it was two quick-fire goals in the second period from Milan Baranyk and Darius Pliskauskas that decided the game.

Swindon had taken an early lead in the first period through Aaron Nell, before Pliskauskas fired the visiting side back level.

Jason Buckman and Edgar Apelis scocred either side of Nell’s second goal of the game in the third -period to put the visitors in control of the game.

Before Alan Lack added to Swindon’s woes as he fired home a quick double three minutes from the end to complete the rout.

The Wildcats were looking to exact revenge on the Phantoms after going down to them 4-2 on the road last Sunday and both teams started with a high intensity.

The first few minutes were more about ill-discipline than hockey as five players all found their way into the sin-bin.

It proved costly for the visitors however when Will Wildon was sent off for two-minutes for tripping in the fourth minute.

From the re-start the puck found its way to Malasinski behind Peterborough’s net and he was able to lay it up for Nell on a plate to fire home from just yards out.

The visitors were back level after 10 minutes when Lyle, who had been pulled into several good saves in the first period, was unable to hold onto a shot and Pliskauskas was on hand to score from close range.

Two goals in the space of a minute knocked the stuffing out of the home-side in the second period.

Against the run of play, Baranyk was able to catch the Cats on the break, before Pliskauskas claimed his second of the match when he went through on goal and his shot was too strong for Lyle and the puck trickled over the line.

Peterborough further extended their lead in the third period when Lyle was only able to parry a shot from out wide and Buckman was on hand to fire into an empty net.

Nell got his second of the game after 48 minutes when Malasinski found him in acres of space at the back post to tap home but it was not enough for the hosts to find a way back into the game.

Peterborough restored their three goal advantage just three minutes later when they made the most of another power-play for Apelis to get his name on the score-sheet.

Lack then scored twice in the space of a minute to wrap up all the points for the visitors and said a Link Centre crowd home disappointed.
