SWINDON Wildcats winger Ollie Betteridge was keen to focus on the plus points from his side’s defeat at the high-flying Telford Tigers last weekend.

Despite a spirited display, in which the visitors kept their opponents at bay until the closing stages of the first period, Swindon were beaten 3-0 in Shropshire as the Tigers gained revenge for their 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Ryan Aldridge’s men earlier this month.

Betteridge, who was named in the Great Britain’s under 20s squad yesterday, conceded that going in to Sunday’s Telford assignment off the back of a crushing home defeat to the Peterborough Phantoms was hardly the best preparation, but thinks that he and his teammates have no reason to not be confident heading in to next weekend’s games against the Guildford Flames and Bracknell Bees.

“Coming in off the back of a 7-2 loss against Peterborough, that his us pretty hard,” said Betteridge.

“We won 4-0 the last time we went to Telford on a Wednesday. We knew they were going to be trying to fight back against us so we knew we had to come and play an unbelievable game.

“We had to be fast, strong and play great defence. Unfortunately they shut us out but I thought we had a massive, massive improvement from Saturday’s game, so that’s a plus before we go against Guildford next weekend.

“We lost 3-0 but there were massive positives in the game.

“It’s always horrible losing a match. We were unlucky not to get that win but it was positive and we can improve on a lot of things from it.

“I feel we’re doing well as a team. We’re playing together right now so it’s all positive going in to the rest of the season. Let’s hope we can go and get a couple more wins.”
