VETERAN goalie Stevie Lyle has hit a rich vein of form recently and he is hoping he can use that to guide the Wildcats to a win against Sheffield Steeldogs this weekend.

Swindon were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Basingstoke Bison on Saturday before being struck down 3-1 by MK Lightning on Sunday at the Link Centre but Lyle knows from experience that there is no need to push the panic button.

After a mixed start to the season, which saw Wildcats not win at home in the league in their first five games, they went on a run of five straight wins.

Lyle, who has been playing for 20 years, has seen it all and knows that a hockey season has its highs and lows and it is all about how the team deals with them.

“The dressing room was a bit low because we felt like we put in a decent performance but credit to MK, they played well,” said Lyle.

“We have to wait until Saturday when we go to Sheffield but the hockey season is always like that.

“It is always going to be up and down- no one wins every game, not even Telford.

“It is just how you take it and we will review the game and see where we went wrong and make up for it next time.

“It is not the last game of the season and we’ve got more to play for but some nights you are going to win and some nights you’re not.

“It’s about not getting too high when you win and not getting too low when you lose - it’s just finding that medium.

“We’ve got a few senior guys in the team and the younger guys can kind of feed off us.”

Swindon head to Sheffield tomorrow looking to return to winning ways but Lyle knows he will have to be at his best for that to happen.

The Cats have been on the end of two defeats at the hands of the Yorkshire side already this season and will be hoping to get a result to lift them away from the bottom of the league.

“I have been playing for a long time now so I know if I am playing well or if I am not. And it is a long season with a lot of games and unfortunately I am getting older,” he added.

“It is obviously nice to be playing decent but it is a team game and I am happy that I am helping the team out.

“They are a hard team to play against because they are very physical.

“Unfortunately, we have played against them twice this season and lost both games so a bit of revenge will be nice.”
