SWINDON Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge had no qualms over his side’s late winner at the Bracknell Bees.

Tomasz Malasinski’s third period match-winner finally shattered the home side’s robust resistance to hand the Wildcats a 3-2 triumph at the Hive but Bracknell were up in arms as the officials allowed the goal to stand after Jan Kostal and a Bees player became entangled in the Swindon goalmouth during the build-up.

Bees captain Matt Foord was so incensed with the decision that he cleaved his stick in two by smacking it against the goalmouth before rushing over to confront the referee and his assistants, but the officials remained unmoved.

But Wildcats chief Aldridge saw nothing wrong with Malasinski’s goal and reckoned that his team were the ones on the end of the most unjust refereeing decisions during the course of their clash with Bracknell.

“Tomasz scored a great goal. It wasn’t like their player was down injured and we were five-on-four at the other end; they were both involved in the same thing and for them to argue over that decision from the other decisions that were made tonight is not right,” said the Swindon boss.

“For their first goal, Richie gets struck down right in front of their net and they go down the other end and score.

“I think the scoreline maybe flattered them a little bit. A couple of refereeing decisions helped them in getting goals.

“It could have been the other way around. We could be doing that.

“We did what was needed tonight; it was good to get a win again. They just work hard and to come here and get a win was all we wanted to do.”

Malasinski and Kostal put Swindon two goals up in the first period before Bracknell hit back thanks to two goals from Radek Hubacek.

Home netminder Tom Annetts then proved a thorn in the side of Aldridge’s men, right up until Malasinski finally swatted the Bees.

Wildcats youngster Ollie Betteridge had to withdraw from the game midway through the second period after taking a tumble and crashing into the boards.

Aldridge added: “We’ve got to get him to the physio. He’s got a bit of bruising.

“He’s probably going to go home to Nottingham tonight, so he’ll either see the Nottingham physio or someone in Swindon first thing tomorrow. It’s a little bit swollen, so we’ll see how it goes.”

The Swindon chief was also full of praise for import D-man Kenton Smith, who returned to his line-up after a lengthy spell out of the team.

“I’ve wanted to get him into the line-up for a while and tonight was the time to do it. He’s been outstanding for us; coming on and sucking it up basically – you know the guy’s desperate to play but he’s done what’s best for the team,” said Aldridge.

“Before I signed him, I heard nothing but good things about him and I’ve got nothing but good things to say. I thought he was good tonight and he set the game-winner up.

“We obviously went on a run and it was working for us but we haven’t played great in the last few games and it’s good, so we can change the line-up, to have those options.”
