THE Swindon Wildcats ruthlessly swatted the Bracknell Bees at the Link Centre this evening to get back on-track in the English Premier League.

In one of their classiest displays of the season, Ryan Aldridge’s side turned up the heat from the off and blew their visitors away with a scorching 10-goal haul The first real chance of the game fell to the visitors, who pounced on a misplaced pass in the Swindon zone to allow Ivan Antonov a crack at goal but Stevie Lyle made the save.

Soon afterwards, it was first-blood Wildcats as Tomasz Malasinski got hold of the puck high up and ice and cut back for Aaron Nell to smash home past a helpless Alex Mettam.

Sam Bullas raised the volume in the Link Centre as he brawled with Bracknell’s James Galazzi a few minutes later and after Pavel Stryceck was penalised, Swindon made their first power play of the evening count as a spell of pressure ended with Malasinski pinging a shot into the bottom corner.

It was 3-0 shortly afterwards as Jan Kostal’s effort from near the blueline slipped through the legs of Mettam and after the Bracknell goalie was immediately hooked by his management, he reacted by furiously attempting to smash his stick to pieces down on the sidelines.

The visitors’ Matt Foord scooped an effort wide of the mark after the puck broke kindly for him whilst Tomas Kana drew a good save from Tom Annetts at the other end.

The opening stages of the second period passed largely without incident, right up until Bracknell pulled a goal back in the ninth minute after Bullas was on the end of a harsh roughing call.

With just three seconds of the power play remaining, Foord’s smart pass to the far post teed up Radaeck Hubacek for a simple tap-in to make it 3-1.

Stevie Whitfield got on the end of Nell’s superb knock forward as Swindon searched to restore their lead before another D-man, Alex Symonds, got himself on the scoresheet as he flicked into the net after getting on the end of Malasinski’s perfectly-weighted through pass.

Moments later, Symonds was penalised for hooking but with four men on the ice, the Wildcats got themselves a breakaway goal as Nell broke free on the counter and clinically slammed the puck into the bottom corner.

Despite being on the wrong end of the power play, the hosts continued to threaten, with Kana drawing a save from Annetts and Nell smacking the frame of the goal, before Whitfield made sure that he was going to end the evening with a goal to his name, tapping home from Toms Rutkis’ delivery to net his team’s sixth.

In the final period, Adam Finlinson made it 7-1 as Annetts allowed his effort to sneak in at the near post, Floyd Taylor with the assist, before Bullas’ effort slipped in through the goalie’s legs.

In the blink of an eye, it was 9-1 as Hoog and Nell combined to tee up Kana for his first Swindon Wildcats goal, which was greeted my delirium from the Link Centre crowd.

Nell pinged an effort off the frame of the Bracknell goal as the onslaught showed no signs of abating and after Michael Stratford’s strike rebounded off Mettam’s chest, Taylor gobbled up the rebound to make it 10-1.
