SWINDON Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge will be looking to build on tonight’s 4-1 win over Sheffield Steeldogs ahead of the play-offs.

Two goals from Adam Harding either side of a strike from Jonas Hoog put Swindon in a commanding position going into the final period.

Aaron Nell finished off the scoring for the visitors before Janis Ozolins was able to get a consoslation goal for the hosts.

With just two games remaining of the regular season Aldridge already has an eye on the play-offs and believes that if his side commit to defence in the same way then they could cause teams a problem.

“I thought it was pretty plain sailing to be honest with you,” he said.

“We talked about committing to defence tonight and I thought, especially when the game was won, the boys did and I thought it was a completely different performance to what we put in last night.

“I think we just talked about that just now. We have had three or four game snot playing our best and now it is about building on tonight and keeping it going for the rest of the year.

“I think it will probably stay the way it is now and we’ll end up playing Peterborough.

“Whatever they did they reacted and I thought everyone was good tonight.”

Swindon were without Alex Symonds, Ollie Betteridge and Tomas Kana for the away trip, with Kenton Smith making a rare return to the roster.

And the visitors rode their luck with Lyle saving well from Ashley Calvert before Nell nearly turned the puck into his own net after it took a nasty deflection off his skate.

However their tactics of soaking up the pressure and trying to catch Sheffield on the break worked in the fifth minute when they were able to counter on Sheffield and Tomas Malasinski was able to find Harding who finished well from close range.

It was a similar routine in the 24th minute when Malasinski was able to square to Hoog, whose first time shot was too good for Sedlar.

Swindon further extended their advantage in the 33rd minute when they made the most of the man advantage with Harding deflecting a Nell shot home.

Lubomir Korhon missed a chance to get the hosts back into the game when he missed his penalty shot, before Nell wrapped up the points in the final period with another goal on the break.

The only worry to come out of the game was the departure of Sam Bullas through injury in the first period but Aldridge is confident he will return before next weekend.

“Sam hurt his shoulder last week in Guildford and was a bit niggley last week in practice before taking a couple of hits last night,” added Aldridge.

“We managed to get the young boys up from their game and I maybe could have pulled him out and rested him.

“He’d have played on though if we’d really needed him although it is causing him a bit of pain.”
