SWINDON Wildcats' Callum Buglass is excited about the prospect of returning to the Link Centre under new boss Stevie Lyle after a fine first season with the side.

The Cardiff Devils D-man has signed on for a second campaign on a dual-contract and is hoping to build on his rookie year in the English Premier League.

Buglass will now be concentrating on getting himself in shape for the new season and hopes to hit the ground running after ending the last campaign in a rich vein of form.

“I feel great and I can’t wait for the season to come back round again,” said the 18-year-old.

“I will train every day I possibly can to get back ready because I want to come back better than I was last year.

“Last year was a great year and playing in the league was unbelievable and it was much better than anybody said it would be.

“I think personally I was a bit reserved at the start of the season, but as my confidence grew my performances got a lot better.

“I think the team we have got already is good. Keeping some of the core team that we had last season and then adding experience like Neil Liddiard.”

Buglass made 40 appearances under Ryan Aldridge last year, picking up 8 points and helping Swindon to the play-off quarter final and Challenge Cup semi-finals, as well as winning gold with the GB U20s at the World Championships, but he wants to go one better this year.

“I think our goal is to win something - I really want to win something,” added Buglass, who will wear the number 45 jersey next season.

“Although I think that is the goal for everybody. There are nine teams in league all going for the same thing and the league seems to have got better this summer so it is going to be even harder but we’ll give it our all.

“There is a bigger goal of unfinished business in the play-offs and unfinished business in the Challenge Cup after losing in the semis.

“My personal goal would be scoring my first goal, but I think I just need to get more shots through. I will also be working hard on getting bigger and hopefully that will help me get better.”

Cats head coach Stevie Lyle said: “Callum proved himself during last year’s breakthrough season and I’m sure he’ll get the opportunity to move up in the game in the next few years.

“We’re excited to have him stay here for another term as he continues to grow as a player, and we know he’ll continue to develop and play a part in bring success to our team.”
