SWINDON Wildcats coach Kenton Smith says that his side have been challenged to reproduce the scintillating level of offensive potency they showed in tonight’s 12-goal destruction of Bracknell Bees when the English Premier League season gets underway.

The Wildcats were in breathtaking form as they blitzed their near neighbours in their second-to-last pre-season fixture at the Link Centre and Smith, who has been tasked with running Swindon’s lines whilst player-boss Stevie Lyle keeps net, was left purring as his troops ran out 12-2 victors.

Swindon travel to the Slough Ice Arena to take on the Bees again tomorrow and Smith reckons that the attacking bar has been set higher than ever for the Wildcats.

“It was a fantastic result. We were a little snake-bitten last weekend (against the Manchester Phoenix) when we ran into a hot goalie but for us to pop 12 goals – that’s great,” said Smith.

“It’s just about getting the guys so they start to gel – different line combinations and stuff like that – and as you saw tonight, and at Hull on Wednesday, we’re starting to put the goals in.

“Everybody’s playing unbelievable right now and that’s what we want going in to the season.

“It seems that Steve has put together a high-offence team and that’s what we’re going to expect every night from the guys.

“Ned (Aaron Nell) got four goals tonight and Tomasz (Malasinski) got three. That’s what we want from out first two lines.

“Our third line; they’re a hard-working line who can chip in with a few goals here and there and that’s what you want in three solid lines.

“Confidence is obviously a major thing but like with anything, you can’t get too high and you can’t get too low. You have to stay on that even keel, and that’s when teams are successful.

“Hopefully, there’s more of that to come.”
