MIROSLAV Zalesak believes that he has made the right move in joining Swindon Wildcats this year.

The former San Jose Sharks centre joined up with the Link Centre side over the summer and following his first weekend in the English Premier League, the former Slovakian international is already feeling at home.

And while he was unable to prevent Stevie Lyle’s side going down to an opening day of the season defeat to Peterborough Phantoms, he helped the Cats bounce back with a dramatic 4-2 win against Telford Tigers 24 hours later, which saw Tomasz Malaskinski add two more goals to the seven he netted against the champions last term.

Zalesak was also credited with the goal that restored Swindon’s lead in Shropshire when his pass to Aaron Nell, who opened the scoring in Telford, took a wicked deflection into the net with the teams locked at 2-2.

With Bracknell Bees and Sheffield Steeldogs awaiting the Cats this weekend, Zalesak was pleased with how the team gelled against Telford.

“I think against Telford we played as a group and as a team, we worked hard,” the 35-year-old said.

“We have to play like that in every game.”

Zalesak arrived in the UK having spent last season split between his native Slovakia, where he played for HK 36 Skalica, and Kazakhstan, where he netted five goals, with 15 assists, in 21 outings for Ertis Pavlodar.

“I’m still getting used to it (the EPL). On Sunday, it was a fast game, up and down, and fans might like that,” he said.

“It is looking good and I feel great in Swindon. There are good guys in the room. You know there is no doubt I’m happy (to be here)."
