SWINDON Wildcats head coach Stevie Lyle is hoping that striking a balance between coaching and his netminding duties won’t take too long to get the hang of ahead of his second weekend in charge.

The 35-year-old held his hands up for last weekend’s defeat at the hands of Peterborough Phantoms after failing to find an equilibrium between his two roles.

However, after taking a back seat on the coaching front during the game on Saturday, the Cats were able to secure an impressive road win at Telford.

“The team actually played well (against Peterborough), I’ve watched the game back now, and unfortunately I didn’t have the best of games, and when the goalie is not playing, you don’t stand much of a chance,” said Lyle.

“Sunday, I was able to concentrate more on the goalie side of things rather than the coaching – I got out of the way just before the game. Hopefully it won’t take me long to get the balance right.

“I would have loved to have had four points but they are two top teams and a two-point weekend is not all that bad to start out with.”

Swindon kick off this weekend at home to Bracknell Bees, a team they demolished 12-2 in pre-season.

Lyle, who will not be risking the injured Adam Harding, is expecting a sterner test, but is still demanding two points.

“This weekend, we are focusing on the first game with Bracknell, but we will be expecting to win both games,” he added.

“Every game is different and I am sure Bracknell are going to come in and be a lot better defensively. From our side of things, we are just going to stick with our game plan and go with as much offence as possible in the first period, but I don’t think it is going to be another 12-2 game.”

Swindon follow tomorrow's game with a trip to the Sheffield Steeldogs and Lyle is aiming to make his side more of a force on the road.

“Swindon have always done well at home, but the away record hasn’t been all that great,so that is something I am looking to change this season,” said the Wildcats chief.

“Obviously, the (Sheffield) coach has changed, and I don’t think they are going to run around and take as many penalties without Mr (Andre) Payette.

"I am sure they will be more disciplined but it is a big ice pad, which suits our game because we are a skating side.”
