CATS skipper Jan Kostal has challenged his teammates to put both sides of their game together to find some consistency.

Swindon have been unpredictable so far this season in their four matches, winning two and losing two.

They picked up the first of those at big-spending Telford Tigers and the second at home to Bracknell Bees on Saturday.

Despite those two successes, the Czech centre believes his side have put together good phases at both ends of the ice, but are yet to put in a complete performance.

Reviewing Cats' start to the season, Kostal said: “We are now better in defence, even though at Sheffield was not so good.

“For example, when we are good in defence, we are not good in offence.

“We must put it together, we must concentrate and learn from our mistakes.

“We must play like we are one man on the ice. Play simply and be hungry to score. It’s important in hockey.”

Kostal was impressed with Cats' defence against Sheffield Steeldogs, but bemoaned the team’s toothless presence in attack.

The skipper did offer a solution and that is for the Wildcats to be prepared to be ‘uglier’ up top when they take on Manchester Phoenix at the Link Centre on Saturday.

“We need to make more shots on goal and be hungry to score,” he added.

“We must stay in front of their goalie so he can’t see.

“I call these ugly shots. Not just shooting from everywhere; we wait and we make a pass when it’s better to shoot and it’s not going in the same place in the net.

“We play Manchester at home and they’re very good (at) offence. We must play simply in our zone and not so long in our zone.

“We will have chances to break - two on one or something like this - and it will be key to win the game.”
