SWINDON Wildcats cannot afford to drop another two points when they entertain Milton Keynes Lightning on Wednesday night, according to forward Aaron Nell.

The Cats have started the new English Premier League season in inconsistent fashion, recording a win and a defeat in each of the opening three weekends.

Their most recent batch of fixtures saw the Cats impress in a 5-3 home win over Manchester Phoenix before being ripped to shreds 24 hours later as they were crushed 6-0 away at Guildford Flames.

Nell says Swindon must go away to lick their wounds and bounce back from that heavy loss by getting their stop-start campaign back on track when Milton Keynes travel to the Link Centre this evening.

“We have to come together, Wednesday is a massive night for us now,” said 25-year-old Nell. “It’s maybe the first game all season we have got some pressure on us. We can’t lose on Wednesday night, we need to win.

“We have to take as many positives as we can from Sunday, there’s no point going crazy. We lost two points, that’s it. It’s not like losing extra points whether you lose by six instead of one.

“We just have to regroup on Wednesday night now.”

The Cats are not the only team to suffer fluctuating fortunes in 2015-16 as no side has won more than four fixtures so far.

In fact, so tight is the table that victory over the Lightning would move Stevie Lyle’s men within one point of top spot.

Nell believes that proves just how competitive the league will be this year and is predicting a season-long slog when it comes to deciding who will get their hands on silverware.

“It’s a different league this year, there are a lot of good teams. Last year Telford ran away with it but no one is going to this year,” added Nell.

“It’s all up for grabs, the league and all the cups. It’s about whoever is the best from September until March.

“We have been okay in September but we need to make sure this is our worst month and we get better and get right up there and have a chance to do something special.”
