AARON Nell hopes last night’s overtime win away to Manchester Phoenix will spur his side on now for an important part of the season.

Manchester has never been a happy hunting ground for the Wildcats, but with Phoenix having moved to Deeside fortunes maybe changing for Nell’s side.

The player/coach scored with just 2.5 seconds remaining on the clock in overtime, securing only Cats’ second four-point weekend of the campaign with a 4-3 success.

“It’s massive,” said Nell.

“To come to this rink and win. I think in the last six years we have won once in Manchester and we have probably lost about 20.

“It is always a tough place for us to come and it is a good win.

“We didn’t put our heads down when they scored that last goal.

“We’ve got part of our schedule now where we need to pick up some wins and I think we’ll do that.

“We’ll have a nice bus trip home but we have got to get back at it for next week.”

Swindon travelled to the Deeside Leisure Centre in north Wales having made hard work of beating bottom-of-the-league Hull Pirates the night before.

However, Swindon were given the perfect start when Sam Bullas struck with less than three minutes on the clock.

Michal Satek pulled the hosts back level, before Jonas Hoog put Swindon 2-1 up at the break and a goalless second period followed.

Nell looked to have done enough to secure the win with his first eight minutes into the final period, but the two goal advantage lasted just 15 seconds as Stanislav Gron pulled a goal back before Richard Bentham took the game into overtime with his strike 20 seconds before the end.

Swindon may have had a long trip home if it hadn’t been for the heroics of Stevie Lyle, who pulled off a fine save in overtime to deny Nico Aaltonen.

“We soaked up the pressure pretty well, Stevie (Lyle) had to make some incredible saves,” added Nell.

“You won’t see a better save than he made in overtime. I put my head down – I thought it was a goal.

“It was the save of the season and that is what we have got.

“We’ve got some really good players and we are really lucky with the guys we have got in our dressing room.”
