D-MAN Matt Selby has vowed that his side will be throwing everything into showing off the real Swindon Wildcats when they renew hostilities with Manchester Phoenix this evening.

Returning from suspension, Selby was part of a Cats side humbled 5-0 by Phoenix in north Wales last Sunday but with an instant chance for revenge presenting itself at the Link Centre today (face-off 5.45pm), the 20-year-old says that he and his team-mates are out to make a major statement.

“We want to show that last weekend; that’s not the kind of team we are,” said Selby.

“I know that they’ve got problems off the ice but Manchester are still a good team and playing on that rink, they used the fact that it was a big rink and their speed really well.

“We had some good patches but there’s no beating around the bush – we know that it wasn’t good enough and there are no excuses.

“But it’s going to be different on our rink because we’ve got a smaller pad and we’re going to use that to our advantage.

“We want to put things right for ourselves, for the supporters and everyone watching, and to show the rest of the league what we’re really about.”

Sunday will also provide another opportunity for the Wildcats to right a wrong as they return to iceSheffield to take on the Sheffield Steeldogs.

Swindon were beaten 3-1 at Sheffield in only the second weekend of the season.

Selby added: “We got beat at Sheffield before but that was early on in the season and I think we’re a much better group now than we were then.

“It’s always a tough place to go and play but it’s a match that we can win – I think that we have to be going for a four-point weekend.”
