SWINDON Wildcats netminder Jordan Hedley is looking to prove his worth after getting a rare chance to impress in Sunday’s win away to Bracknell Bees.

Opportunities have been few and far between for the 19-year-old since his move last summer from Milton Keynes Lightning.

However, that has not knocked his confidence and he is keen to show his abilities to player-coach Aaron Nell when he gets handed his chance.

“It felt good being back out on the ice,” said Hedley.

“I haven’t played in almost two months now but I have been training hard to make sure I am ready when I get the call.

“I am always confident but there are those first nerves when you get back out on the ice and you feel a bit rusty.

“I felt good the whole way through the game, despite the lack of action, but they got some good chances and we were playing soft halfway through the game and we were taking a lot of penalties which is tough.

“I would like to have played more than I have but it is difficult when Stevie (Lyle) is playing so well and we have got to get the points and Stevie can do that for you.

“I have got to prove myself in every game I get and I definitely think I did that on Sunday, well I hope so.”

Hedley has played back up to Stevie Lyle this season and believes that learning off the Welshman will be key to his progression.

“My development is going well and I train with Stevie a lot and he gives me a lot of pointers, even during the period breaks which is great,” he added.

“Having him there is the best thing I can have at the minute at my age.

“It is more mentally that he helps me during the season and there is a lot of things I can change.”

The 19-year-old is in line for another outing when Swindon head back to the John Nike Leisure Centre this Sunday and Nell is prepared to take any flak from fans.

“That is my call and that is on my head,” Nell said.

“Jordan is a very good goalie and he is in a tough spot where we have got an incredible goalie ahead of him.

“Jordan was great on Sunday and he made some massive saves.

“It has been tough and we had a tough few weeks and Stevie has been playing out of this world and it is tough to get Jordan in.

“It was big for Jordan to play and we all made a big deal and hopefully he will be back in for Sunday.”
