SWINDON Wildcats import Tomasz Malasinski has been called up by Poland for an international training camp this month.

Malasinski and the rest of the 34-man squad will battle it out for selection to the Polish national team to take part in February’s Olympic qualification programme as well as their World Championships Division 1A campaign in April.

The Wildcats forward will not take part in a game which has been organised as part of the camp against a Foreign League Stars side on Saturday, February 6 and instead return to Swindon for the club’s English Premier League game against the Guildford Flames at the Link Centre on the same day.

However, Malasinski will be absent from the Cats’ following three fixtures away at Basingstoke Bison (February 12), Milton Keynes Lightning (February 13) and at home to Basingstoke (February 14) in order to feature in his country’s Olympic qualifiers against Estonia, Lithuania and Hungary the following week.

Swindon Wildcats head coach Aaron Nell said: “We are all delighted for Tomasz that he has been selected to play for Poland and we wish him luck in the upcoming games.

“It's great for the club that we have players of Tomasz's calibre that represent their country at the Olympic and World Championship level.”

Malasinski has played 37 games for the Wildcats so far this season, netting 28 goals and making 31 assists for 59 points.

The camp begins tomorrow and will be followed by the final selection of the 26-man squad, who will take part in the forthcoming Olympic Qualifications and World Championships.
