SWINDON Wildcats will be facing the best team in the league when they face-off against Guildford in their play-off quarter-final this weekend, according to boss Aaron Nell.

Nell is quite happy for his Wildcats side to be the underdogs as they welcome the Flames to the Link Centre in their final home game of the season on Saturday before travelling to the Spectrum on Sunday.

Success against the Flames, who finished third in the regular season standings, would see the Wildcats qualify for the finals weekend on April 2-3 in Coventry.

The two teams have already met six times this season, with Guildford winning all bar two, a 7-4 defeat in October and a 3-2 loss in March.

“Guildford are a very good team, on their day I think they are the best team in the league,” Nell said.

“Any team in the top eight is going to be a tough game but to go through, you have to beat the best teams.

“Guildford are one of the better teams, it’s going to be a difficult but that will make it even sweeter in the end.

“I am sure we are the underdogs so the pressure is on Guildford.

“We have to concentrate on ourselves and make sure we play well.

“Guildford are the favourites so it’s our job to work hard and make sure we play hard, if we do that, we will hopefully cause an upset.

“Inside our dressing room we are quietly confidence and we know if we play well we have a chance.”

The Wildcats lost both their quarter-final legs last year by a single goal to Peterborough Phantoms, 4-3 at the Link Centre before a 2-1 defeat in Peterborough.

But the Wildcats will be buoyed by strong performances last weekend where they defeated Hull Pirates and Telford Tigers, both 7-4.

“Our last three away games, we have been good,” added the Wildcats player-coach.

“It was good to get a win on Sunday, we need to build on last weekend.

“If we can play well at home on Saturday we can hopefully get a big lead to take into Sunday. It’s our job to play well on Saturday to get that lead.

“The play-offs are always that bit bigger, it will be a bigger crowd on Saturday it will be a good atmosphere and that will add to it.

“We can hopefully give the fans something to cheer about and they will go home happy.”

Face-off for the Wildcats’ play-off quarter-final at the Link Centre on Saturday is 5.45pm before Swindon travel to The Spectrum in Guildford for a 6pm face-off on Easter Sunday.
