AARON Nell already has one eye on building his Swindon Wildcats team for next season after experiencing the ‘gut-wrenching’ feeling of a play-off defeat to Guildford Flames.

The Wildcats fell to a 2-0 defeat in Surrey last night to inflict a 3-2 aggregate defeat and miss out on a semi-final trip to Coventry.

However, Nell is taking no time to sulk and with three players, including himself, already committed for the next campaign, he is ready to build his own side for next season.

“It is gut-wrenching and very tough to take but we have just got to bounce back and we’ll keep learning and keep on getting better,” he said.

“We are a very young team, from me and an awful lot of our players and we are going to get better.

“As a coach, I have got to learn from it, everyone as an organisation has got to learn from this season and this weekend and move forward.

“That is all you can do. We can’t pout forever. We’re gutted today but tomorrow is a new day and the sun is going to rise and as a club we are going to work all summer on getting better. There will be players who come back and unfortunately players who don’t come back, but that is part of the job.

“Tomorrow is a clean slate and we have got some very good people here who we are going to build around and move forward.”

Having seen Basingstoke Bison lift the league title in the regular season and heard the celebrations from the Guildford changing room last night, Nell is hoping that pain will prove to be a driving force.

“That has got to hurt and we have got to want it more,” he added.

“We have seen Guildford beat us here, we have seen Basingstoke win the league and we have got to learn from it.

“I’m a very young coach and it is my job now to learn from other people who have had success and get better. Every single player, whoever plays for us next season, has got to get better.”
