IMPORT forward Carlo Finucci has said that he would love to return to the Swindon Wildcats next season having had his ‘most enjoyable season in hockey’ to date.

When he was brought in to the Link Centre roster as a replacement for Miroslav Zalesak last October, the Canadian-born player admitted that he was coming in blind having not known many people who had played in the English Premier League previously.

However, Finucci soon became a fan favourite and despite not having talks with the club about his future, he would like to bring some stability to his career.

When asked if he wanted to be with the club next season he replied: “Yeah, I have loved my time here.

“It was one of my most enjoyable seasons of hockey, that’s for sure.

“As a hockey player, you like feeling comfortable in a situation.

“It has been three years now I have been at a different team and coming back to the same guys when you know the city and know the team and the organisation is a good thing.

“I was sitting on the couch at home waiting for a team and then coming in here in mid-October and stepping in and being a special part of the team.

“I had a feeling that we were going to do something special and it is too bad that is how it ended.

“You never know what kind of options come up as a hockey player and maybe something happens in a higher league or somewhere else.

“I will take my time and look back on the season and see what I have got to work on and hopefully something comes in the works.

“I would love to come back but I can’t make that decision myself, it has to be both sides and we’ll see what happens.”

Fans took to Finucci early on, with the 29-year-old finishing as the fourth highest points scorer at the Link Centre and he believes that support has helped him through an injury hit season.

“All I can say is the fans are amazing,” he added.

“They have welcomed me with open arms and hearing them week in, week out gives me that extra burst when I am not playing so well or something.

“They are always behind you and that has been a huge thing for me from day one.

“I’ve never really had something like that and it has been special.

“There have been ups and downs personally for me during the year with the injury and now I get the chance to get myself 100 per cent.

“I have just got to build on that and get ready for next season.”
