SWINDON Topcats continued their unbeaten 2015-16 season with a hard-fought share of the points away at Widnes Wild on Saturday.

Despite a long road trip, the Topcats came flying out of the blocks and netted after just 2:43 through Rebecca Da Cova, assisted by team captain Rebecca Inker.

However, the Wild got back on level terms when former Belgian international Leen De Decker, forced the puck beyond Rachel Moore on 12:46.

Wild took the lead on 20:54 after Abigail Culshaw found a way beyond Moore, the assist going to Catherine Bowen-Fell, to grab her first goal for the home side.

But the advantage was short-lived, with Inker restoring parity a little under three minutes later (23:43) to tie the scores at 2-2.

The pendulum swung back in favour of the Cats on 30:41 when Rebecca Osman netted the visitors’ third of the game, assisted by Sarah-Jane Fletcher and Da Cova.

But the visitors were ultimately denied victory when Culshaw grabbed her second of the game, assisted by Katie Hills, to earn Widnes a 3-3 draw.

The result kept the Topcats on top of the standings, extending their lead over second-placed MK Falcons to four points having played two games more.

There’s a huge top-of-the-table clash in store for the Topcats this Saturday evening when the side host MK at the Link Centre (5.45pm).
