SWINDON Wildcats’ 2016-17 roster in on the verge of completion after Michael Crisp returned to the fold as back-up netminder.

Crisp, 25, becomes the 19th addition to the Link Centre squad with head coach Aaron Nell expected to add a British forward to his options before the start of the English Premier League in September.

The goalie is already well known to Wildcats’ supporters, having spent two season with the club between 2013 and 2015, making a total of eight appearances.

Crisp said: “I’m happy to be back with Swindon this season - it’s somewhere I honestly didn’t want to leave so I’m grateful for the opportunity to return.

“I can gain a lot of experience playing alongside (number one netminder) Stevie Lyle with his approach to the game.

“It’s something I can learn a great deal from.

“To be on a team that can make the push for silverware with the impact signings we have made during the summer was also a big factor for me in coming back. I can’t wait to get started.”

Crisp, capped at several junior levels by his country, spent the 2015/16 campaign with the Cardiff Devils NIHL team and will join Lyle as one of two Swindon netminders.

His recapture has brought to an end Nell’s hunt for someone with the character to back-up the Great Britain international.

Nell said: “We are delighted that Michael has decided to return to Swindon this season.

“Michael is a great person to have in the dressing room and at the club.

“He will support Stevie Lyle when needed and he will learn a lot from Stevie throughout the season.”

The Wildcats hope to put the finishing touches to their 2016-17 season roster next week.
