SKIPPER Jan Kostal says Swindon Wildcats cannot afford to think they are the finished article already just because they are enjoying a four-match winning streak.

The Cats won just one of their opening four English Premier League fixtures this term but completed back-to-back perfect weekends last Sunday with victory at Manchester Phoenix, which followed the home success over Bracknell Bees 24 hours earlier.

Although confidence is sky high within the camp, Kostal will not be letting any of Aaron Nell’s troops get carried away ahead of another big weekend of action.

Swindon welcome reigning EPL play-off champions Peterborough Phantoms to the Link Centre on Saturday before then making the trip to current table toppers Telford Tigers, who have yet to lose a fixture in normal time this term.

“They will be hard games again. We need to play simply because the teams are very good,” said Kostal.

“We just need to play like we did in the last four games and put everything on the ice. We need to play as hard as we can.

“We need to stay on the floor, not have our noses up in the air, that’s very important. We are not superstars, we need hard work to bring in the points.”

Swindon’s superb run of form was capped by a fabulous 5-1 drubbing of hosts Manchester last time out and pulled them into the top four in the table.

Kostal reckons the team are beginning to show exactly what they are capable of and cites the 7-4 win away at Guildford Flames on September 25 as the turning point in the Cats’ campaign.

“The four-point weekend was excellent and everybody did a good job. Now we need to look forward to the next games,” said Kostal.

“We have had some very hard games and we were losing 2-0 at Guildford, we got back in the game and we won. We came back there and that kicked us on to be better and better.

“Last week we confirmed how good we can be, everyone was excellent. It was unbelievable and I am very happy that we have won four games in a row.

“We need to play like this every week and everyone has to give 100 per cent on the ice.”

Kostal took his goals tally to four for the season with a double in the win over Phoenix and although he would like increase that further, the team results remain the top priority for the Cats captain.

“I want to score but sometimes it’s difficult,” said Kostal.

“I am not thinking about it, I just put my maximum on the ice for the game win and sometimes points come when the team starts winning and then it gets easier and easier.

“At first we need to win and then we will be better and better and then maybe I will score more goals. If so, I will be very happy.”
