NEIL Liddiard reckons that he and his Swindon Wildcats team-mates should allow themselves to dream of getting their hands on some silverware this season.

With victory over the Peterborough Phantoms and an overtime loss at the Telford Tigers last weekend, the Wildcats solidified their top-four position in the English Premier League while Aaron Nell’s side also occupy the same position in the EPL Cup standings.

Having dropped just one point from their last six outings, veteran D-man Liddiard says that the Cats are savouring their fine form and shouldn’t set any limits on how far the current crest of a wave will take them.

“Confidence is really high at the moment. We had a bit of a shaky start and started slow but then we got those first couple of wins and the confidence is just high,” said Liddiard.

“Winning’s a habit and (we'll keep doing well) as long as we keep playing the way we are and everyone keeps putting the effort in. Aaron’s got the systems down and it’s all working well, we need to just keep doing what we’re doing.

“We’ve got the momentum at the moment so there’s no reason why we can’t compete with any of the big boys in the league for any of the trophies that are on offer.

“So if we keep getting these wins and progressing in the cup; let’s see if we can get a piece of silverware.”

Liddiard, 38, proved an unlikely hero as his last-gasp equaliser forced overtime on the road at Telford last Sunday.

After first debuting for his hometown club a full 23 years ago, the former Guildford Flames man was chuffed to finally open his Wildcats account but that doesn’t mean that he plans to become a more regular contributor in opposition zones. “I’m not here to score goals so if I get another one, that will be good, but I’m not really bothered,” he said.

“It felt good. Two points would have been better but it did feel good to finally get that goal on a personal level.

“I get a little bit of abuse for (not scoring many) and it was a good game to get my first goal in.”

Swindon have also enjoyed plenty of success against Telford, who won the 2014-15 EPL title, and it’s something that Liddiard can’t quite get to the bottom of.

He added: “I can’t really put my finger on it.

“We come to win every night but when we play Telford - they’ve got all that money and they ran away with the league - it seems like we’ve got their number.

“We know how to play against them and it works well every time we play them.”
