NEW signing Matt Selby has stated he is excited to return to Swindon Wildcats and is focussed on getting result during his time at the Link Centre.

The 21-year-old played 42 times for the Wildcats in the EPL last season but is back on a two-way deal with Elite League side Coventry Blaze, who he currently still trains with.

Selby also said a lack of ice time was another reason for him to come back to the Link Centre.

“I was debating going back to Swindon in the summer because that was an opportunity for me but I decided test myself in the league above,” said Selby.

“I was called into the office in Coventry and I was asked about my opinions on the Swindon Wildcats and my ice time.

“Things weren’t working out quite as well as I was hoping so when I got offered the chance to come back I was straight back at it.

“I’m still training with Coventry to get Elite League experience, but I’m coming back to Swindon and just focussing on Swindon.

“I’m not looking at it as a stepping stone, I see it as this is where I played last year and I’m here to get results.”

The D-man also believes the intense training he has been doing at Coventry will have only improved him as a player and is keen to offer his services to the Swindon cause.

“I’m going to try and give the fans what they want because they are religiously positive every week and you don’t get that at every club.

“I feel healthy to be honest, the training schedules I have been on recently have just been very intense. “We’ve been doing that since the middle of August with pre-season so it’s been nothing but intensity, along with that we have four on ice sessions a week and three gym sessions a week.

“So combining all of those together it’s been nothing but training so I feel fit, healthy and a little bit wiser than what I was last year because there is some serious experience in Coventry.

“I’m hoping I can bring that on top of the game which I already brought last season. I was playing a bit for Coventry, but not to the standard that I was last season.

“I was playing regular shifts last season which was different to this year, so now I’m going back to regular minutes it’s almost exciting.”

The Wildcats will host Sheffield Steeldogs tomorrow before making the short trip to struggling Bracknell Bees on Sunday as they look end their five match losing streak.
