AARON Nell has labelled his team’s 7-3 win over the Sheffield Steeldogs as a massive win after it brought an end to their five match losing streak.

Goals from Sam Bullas, Jordan Kellsall, Kyle Smith plus doubles from Tomasz Malasinski and Max Birbraer meant Swindon came out as victors in the first of their two cup games this weekend.

Speaking after the game, player-coach Nell, who is currently injured, said he was delighted with the victory at the Link Centre.

“We needed that tonight, especially after the first period where we could have had felt down but Bullas got a massive goal at the start of the second and after that we didn’t look back,” said Nell.

“It was a big win tonight, we could get some momentum but it depends how we play tomorrow, in a very important game against a tough side.

“We need to build on tonight I don’t think it is a turning point yet but if we get a win tomorrow we can start to feel good again and turn a corner.”

Nell also hailed the importance of new arrivals Ryan Aldridge and Matt Selby who have soothed the Wildcats’ injury problems.

“They’ve been great, Ryan (Aldridge) was great in the way he plays he hasn’t played in three years but he still competes,” added Nell.

“Selby was a lot better tonight than he was last week, he is only going to get better and Jordan (Kellsall) has scored three goals in three games so he’s been a big part of our team.

“We need to play similarly to how we played tonight, because our imports and Stevie Lyle are very good, but our British players were very good tonight.

“Bullas had his best game of the year, Kyle (Smith) had a goal and a fight he had a great start to the season.

“In September he was brilliant, October he wasn’t at his best but he is very young and has taken a lot on board and tonight he was back to how he was in September.”
