CAPTAIN Jan Kostal hopes there will be something for everyone as Swindon Wildcats prepare to celebrate their 30th anniversary over the weekend.

Starting on Friday, there are a whole host of events for ice hockey fans to attend, with the highlight being a Swindon Wildcats v Legends game on Sunday evening at the Link Centre.

Kostal joined the Cats in 2013 from Czech Republic outfit HC Karlovy Vary and was made club captain upon arrival after the rest of the players nominated him for the role.

Having built up a strong affinity with the club in his spell in Wiltshire, 36-year-old Kostal is looking forward to helping htem celebrate.

“I’m very happy that I can be here for when the Swindon Wildcats celebrate 30 years,” said Kostal. “I think it will be a great weekend for the fans as well.

“It’s a three-day celebration, so hopefully everybody will find something they’ll enjoy.”

The day before the legends game, Swindon also have to face Telford Tigers in the English Premier League, a side who beat them 6-0 in late November.

With that, Czech ace Kostal is looking for nothing less than a win against the Tigers to ensure Sunday’s celebrations start early.

“We need to play as hard as we can because that is the key to winning,” said the Czech.

“We are playing at home but we need to be better over all three periods and we need to play simply.”

Despite the friendly nature of Sunday’s game, Kostal still wants to see the current Cats roster come away with a win.

“There is a legends game and we play against Telford on Saturday, it’s very nice and I am looking forward to it,” he added.

“It will be just for fun and to enjoy but it’s like a normal game on a Sunday and we still want to win if we can.”

On Friday night you will be able to attend the first of the weekend’s events ‘A Night with the Legends’, where fans can meet their favourite players from the past.

Saturday’s home game also gives supporters the chance to take part in an informal meet and greet with the current Cats players in the VIP area after the match.

As well as the highly-anticipated Legends game, fans will also be able to take some of the shirts home with them as there is a special auction, with all the proceeds raise going to the Wildcats.
