SWINDON Wildcats’ latest addition Phil Hill is looking to make the most of his time in Swindon following his arrival from cash-strapped Telford Tigers earlier this week.

The 34-year-old forward has joined the club on a deal until the end of the season as the Wildcats continue to soothe their injury problems.

Hill has played alongside a number of the current crop of players at the Link Centre, having featured for Cardiff Devils and Sheffield Steelers, and there will be some familiar faces lining up against him tomorrow as Telford are the visitors.

The Welshman, who is based in Cardiff, said that familiarity was a big draw in him signing for the club.

“For me, it was inevitable. I have played with Aaron (Nell) before in Sheffield and I know a few of the guys on the team,” said Hill.

“It seems like a well-run organisation. I spoke to a few guys who played and they’re enjoying their hockey.

“For me, with the family in Cardiff and everything, it kind of limits the options to an extent on where I’m able to play.”

The forward also believes the Wildcats should be higher than their current sixth-place in the English Premier League.

He also sees no reason why the club can’t knuckle down and try and win the play-offs early next year.

“They have probably underachieved so far. You look at their team and they have some real high-end talent,” added Hill.

“They have some good young Brits too. We just need to thicken up that consistency going into the stretch to the play-offs.

“They have players who can win matches on their own and when you have Stevie Lyle in goal ,you always have a chance to win every game.

“I don’t really set personal targets. I try to lead by example. I’ve got experience of playing on championship-winning teams. I try and do the little things every game.

“We want to try and push up the league now, win as many games as possible, and try and win the play-offs.

Hill, who was a member of the Steelers side that finished top of the Elite League in 2014-15, is set to make his debut against his old club and admits it will be a slightly weird occasion.

“It’s strange how things work out. There will be a little bit of emotion. It will be nice to play my first game at home because it helps with nerves. Sunday’s Legends game will be more relaxed.” he said.
