SWINDON Wildcats veteran Lee Richardson says he feels honoured to have been given a testimonial after spending 10 years with the club.

It has been announced that the Cats utility man’s career will be celebrated at the Link Centre on May 6, with an exhibition match between a Swindon Academy side and a team of Richardson’s current and former team-mates.

Richardson joined the junior set up in Swindon at the age of seven and played for his hometown club for two seasons before moving to Coventry Blaze in 2002.

A year later, he moved again as he spent a year plying his trade for other sides such as Bracknell Bees, Basingstoke Bison and Cardiff Devils.

However, in 2008 the now 34-year-old returned to the Link Centre, where he has remained ever since.

“It’s a massive honour and privilege to be awarded a testimonial year,” said Richardson “There is a lot still to be done and a lot of people to thank for their help, but I still hope everyone is looking forward to it as much as me.

“Now we can start looking forward and arranging stuff for the testimonial and now the date of the game is out there.

“When you get to eight years at a club you think you might get a testimonial, but until it actually happens you never know.

“It will be good fun. You play with a lot of people over 15 years so it’s nice to have them all in one place at one time.”

Players who are taking part in Richardson’s testimonial will be announced throughout the rest of the season. For any information regarding the testimonial, contact richiestestimonial@hotmail.com.
