SWINDON Wildcats player-coach Aaron Nell admits his side need to be more ruthless around the net following a 2-0 home defeat to the Peterborough Phantoms.

The game was an even affair, but the hosts slipped behind at the end of the first period when Martins Susters tucked the puck past Stevie Lyle in the 18th minute.

Going into the second period the visitors again had the better of the chances and made the most of them as Ales Padeleck doubled the lead two minutes in.

Despite the result, Nell remains positive and acknowledges his side did little wrong during the home defeat.

“It was frustrating but I can’t really fault the players today, the only thing I can fault is the five on three,”

“We had a big opportunity there to get a big goal at the end of the period and have some momentum, “The five on three wasn’t good enough. Obviously there were times where they were the better team, but we were good.

“At the net we have to be more clinical, you have to take your big chances and we didn’t but I couldn’t fault the effort of the players.”

The game also saw Toms Rutkis return to action follow after picking up a knee injury at the beginning of October.

However Nell has been dealt another blow as he revealed Matt Selby will not feature for the Cats for the rest of the season.

He also added Mark Smith, who was not involved in the game, faces a spell on the sidelines after he suffered chest pains in last week’s loss to Telford Tigers. “One guy comes in and one guy goes out, we have four D men out of our line up and it is difficult,” he added.

“We are waiting on the doctors, Mark (Smith) had a chest pain last week which is something we obviously have to monitor very closely.

“Matt (Selby) won’t play for the rest of the season for a few different reasons, we agreed with his decision and we wish him the best, he’s always welcome back.”
