SWINDON Wildcats' Stevie Whitfield claims his side are more than aware of the importance of form as they mount a play-off challenge.

MK Lightning and Bracknell Bees are this week’s opponents, with the Cats playing away from home on Saturday, before taking on Peterborough Phantoms next week.

Following last weekend’s impressive win over MK, Whitfield wants to see more of the same as they travel to Buckinghamshire.

“It was a big turnaround. We had a poor game against Telford and we were looking for a reaction, and that’s what we got,” said Whitfield.

“Now it is a case of continuing moving forward. Obviously, we have another tough game against Milton Keynes.

“Hopefully, we get a snowball effect and we can carry that on until the play-offs.”

Whitfield has been a mainstay in defence for the Wildcats this season, following injuries to fellow D-men Mark Smith, Callum Buglass, Ollie Stone and Matt Selby.

But with injury troubles smoothing over, the 26-year-old thinks consistency could do the Cats the world of good in the final months of the season.

“I’ve not played in a season where we have had so many injuries. I think Steve and Aaron (Nell) deserve a lot of credit for being able to bring people in,” he added.

“It is obviously very difficult because you lose that continuity when you change who you are playing with.

“I think we are starting to cope. If we stay fit for the rest of the year, we should be able to build form towards the play-offs.

“At this time of year, you don’t mind playing a lot of games. It will be a good dummy run for us because the play-offs are a different format this year.

“All of our games now are important, so we’re looking to find form and keep our intensity.”
