SWINDON Wildcats’ Czech forward Robin Kovar believes his side are back on track to make an impact in the play-offs after last weekend’s four-point weekend.

Back-to-back wins over Milton Keynes Lightning and Sheffield Steeldogs lifted Aaron Nell’s side to fifth in the English Premier League.

Cats play host to Bracknell Bees tomorrow before making the short trip to Guildford Flames, who they jumped above last weekend.

With the play-offs just five games away, Kovar, who stated his intentions of making an impact in the end-of-season showdown on his arrival at the end of January, knows the importance of carrying momentum from the end of the regular season.

“It was a great team effort and a great win against Sheffield last weekend,” he said.

“It gave us a four-point weekend and we are back on track following the weekend before.

“We really wanted to bounce back because it was a really bad loss in Bracknell (on February 19) and we wanted to prove that we were a better team than that.

“Last Saturday, we beat one of the best teams in the league in Milton Keynes, and Sunday was a tough road game.

“Our special teams worked well and it is something that we have been working on in training, and it has become our advantage.

“In the play-offs, this is going to be a huge part of our game.

“You don’t want to be losing and think that things will change in the play-offs.

“We want to get our heads into a play-off mood now – win every game and get our confidence high – and hopefully keep the levels up and make it to Coventry, because this is our goal.”

Despite Manchester Phoenix going bust in January, Kovar was touched to see a contingent of fans from his former club follow him to south Yorkshire last Sunday, but says he has settled in well with Cats and is hoping to bring success to his new band of followers.

“It was very special to see the Manchester fans,” he added.

“I saw a few messages that they would be coming and I was extra motivated, and I am glad I scored a goal for them as well.

“I am really enjoying my time in Swindon. The guys are amazing and it is a very professional organisation.

“Hockey is big in the town and I want to play my best every game, and hopefully we get a good result in the play-offs.”
