D-MAN Stevie Whitfield insists the Wildcats are raring to go against MK Lightning at the Link Centre, knowing only a positive result will be enough for his side.

The task won’t be easy for the Wildcats as Lightning have won all three of their play-off games so far, following a successful campaign which saw them finish second to Telford Tigers in the league standings.

With just one win in their opening three play-off ties, the Wildcats have no room for error as they play out the rest of their Group B fixtures and Whitfield admits it is a less than ideal situation.

“We are excited and ready to go. We have got ourselves in a bit of a spot where it’s either win or go home,” said the 26-year-old.

“It will just make for an exciting game where we will be looking to do everything we can to win the game.

“We need to have intensity and the will to win it more than the team who are in front of us.

“It’s not ideal, I would much rather we weren’t in a situation where we have to win each one. It’s still in our hands but you’re just looking to win every game.

Whitfield, who has made 53 appearances this season, acknowledges the Cats need to make the most of their chances as well as well as keep it tight defensively if they are to come away with a much-needed triumph at the Link Centre.

“You have to try and limit their goal scoring chances,” added Whitfield, who is expecting a tight affair.

"So you have to keep them on the outside, let Stevie (Lyle, netminder) make the save and be tough in front of the net.

“But then on the other side of that they (Lightning) don’t give up an awful lot of opportunities, so when they do you have to be clinical.

“Our four imports are the ones you would look at to take those chances, they’re all capable of scoring big goals.

“Or it could be a case of other players stepping up, that can be a big help too. I know Floyd (Taylor) got a big goal at the weekend.

“You want it to be a team effort so that when we do get an opportunity we are taking them.”
